The Indian Economic Service/ Statistical Service exam will be held in June. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced 32 vacancies for various posts under the Indian Economic Service and 33 vacancies through the Indian Statistical Service exam. In comparison to last year, the vacancy number has increased by 41%. IES exam, as it is commonly referred to, is taken by aspiring Economics postgraduates. Candidates with postgraduate degree in Applied Economics, Business Economics and Econometrics can also appear for the exam.
Candidates with Bachelor's Degree with Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics as one of the subject or a Master's degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics are eligible to appear for the Indian Statistical Service exam.
Candidates who do not wish to take the exam can withdraw the application from April 23 to April 30. "UPSC has no provision to refund any fee amount paid by candidates, so in case of successful withdrawal of application the fees will not be refunded," reads the exam notice released by the UPSC. The Commission had started this facility in the Engineering Services exam this year. However this option has not been provided to the candidates appearing for the Civil Services exam in which the attendance, usually, is 50%. More than 10 lakh candidates register for the Civil Services exam every year.
