West Bengal Cabinet Approves Merger Of PSC And SSC

West Bengal cabinet approved merger of the Staff Selection Commission(SSC) with the Public Service Commission (PSC). The step was taken to curtail costs and for better utilisation of manpower, a senior official said. "The SSC has been merged with the PSC," Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said after a cabinet meeting held at the secretariat. "There will be no job loss and nobody will be affected by this," Chatterjee added.
The state SSC was set up by Mamata Banerjee government in 2012 for recruitment in Group C and D posts.
The cabinet also gave its nod to start recruitment to fill up 5000 vacancies in various departments, mainly in the fire and health departments, Chatterjee said.
