2 Doctors Suspended for Allegedly Dumping Patient on River Barrage

Kanpur: Two junior doctors of a state-run medical college in Kanpur have been suspended for allegedly dumping a woman patient on the barrage of river Ganga, police said on Friday.

The head of Orthopaedic department of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, Dr A K Gupta said that the two doctors -- Vivek Nayar and Iftikar Ansari -- have been suspended for three months and a three-member committee will probe the incident.

Victim Krishna Devi, a resident of Begusarai in Bihar, was injured in a train accident last week after which she was admitted to the medical college by police as she was travelling alone, police said.

The two junior doctors allegedly took her from the hospital in an ambulance and dumped on the river bank on July 13, police said.

Next day police found the woman, who narrated the incident to them, and got her admitted at the hospital again, they said.

Police reported the matter to the medical college authorities.

In the initial investigation, the allegations were found to be true following which medical college authorities took the action, police said.

Meanwhile, another junior doctor Dr Sandipan was suspended for three months for refusing to admit a patient, police added.
