Kanpur: Four suicides in one day

Kanpur: Three women were among four persons who allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in the city, police said today.

Indu (29), wife of Ashish Dwivedi, a resident of Indira Nagar in Kalyanpur, committed suicide yesterday by hanging herself from a ceiling.

Indu's husband Ashish claimed that the couple had an altercation last evening following which Indu took the extreme step.

However, the in-laws of Ashish have accused him and his mother for demanding dowry. Police have taken Ashish and his mother into custody for interrogation.

The second incident took place at Sanchedi area where Manisha (20), daughter of Rameshwar, whose marriage was slated to be held in a few days, allegedly killed herself.

Unable to meet the demands of the groom's parents, Rameshwar had decided to sell his house and land to which Manisha objected. Sensing that their demands will not be met, the groom's family called off the marriage.

Hurt over the incident, Manisha allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house.

The third incident took place at Shahpur in Panki area where 28-year-old Rani allegedly set herself ablaze.

The fourth case of suicide took place at Govindnagar Daboli where Akhilesh (22) allegedly ended his life by consuming poison yesterday. Akhilesh was mentally ill since the last few days.
