Kanpur: A woman and her son were burnt to death when their room in Chekari caught fire today due to
LPG leak, police said.
Raju Devi (40) and her 8-year-old son Sumit died of burn injuries after their room caught fire this morning, SP (city) Kushar Saurabh said.
The incident happened when Raju was cooking breakfast unaware of gas leaking from the damaged pipe, the official said, adding, fire fighters soon arrived at the spot and doused the flames but could not save the duo.
The official suspected that the gas-cylinder being used for cooking might have been bought illegally and was not safe for use.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
