Kanpur:
An angry mob beat up a local goon and killed him with a sharp weapon after he and two of his accomplices attacked a teacher for money in Balrampur village at Ghatampur area, police said today.
Raju Yadav, a history sheeter with about two dozen cases of theft and murder against him, and his two accomplices Israel and Irfan were trying to extort money from Nirmal Kushwaha, a teacher, they said.
When Kushwaha, a resident of Ratanpur village in the area, refused to give in to their demands last evening, they attacked him with a sharp weapon, the police said.
The three then tried to flee by firing in the air, but by that time a crowd had already gathered.
The angry mob nabbed Yadav and beat him before injuring him with the same sharp weapon with which he had attacked the teacher, police said.
The two other thugs were arrested by the police upon reaching the spot and two country-made pistols and ammunition were recovered from them.
Police were on the look-out for Yadav for quite some time, they said.
Yadav's body has been sent for post-mortem and investigations into the case are underway, police said, adding, the injured teacher was admitted in hospital.
