Kanpur:
On the birthday of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the district administration distributed gifts among needy people by providing tricycles to physically challenged, plots to landless dalits and arranging marriage for poor girls.
Under various schemes, a total of 1147 people today got benefits, estimated to be worth of Rs 4.46 crore.
At a function, attended by district commissioner Amit Ghosh, DM Mukesh Mayshram and others, 50 girls were married off, elderly got pension and 69 landless dalits received plots. The officials also endorsed various schemes launched by the government.
Meanwhile, BSP members in the district cut a 55kg cake and organised a rally to celebrate the birthday of their party.
