Kanpur:
At least three people, one of them a 12-year-old girl, were killed when the roof of their house caved in following overnight rains in Kanpur on Tuesday, police said.
The crash took place at Hitkari Nagar in the Kakadeo area of the city.
Vinod Sharma, 40, his mother and 12-year-old daughter died on the way to hospital, while Sharma's wife Neelu (35), is said to be critical.
The tragedy came to light in the morning when their neighbour Saroj Bajpayee woke up. She immediately raised an alarm and people informed the police.
Three other family members, all children of the deceased, however, survived as they were sleeping in another room at the time when the roof caved in.
District official Ajay Singh said that since this was a natural calamity, the district administration will give an ex-gratia amount to the bereaved family.
