Kanpur:
Two anganwadi workers were killed and four others seriously injured when a speeding SUV rammed into them near Ganga bridge on Kanpur-Lucknow highway on Thursday, police said.
The workers were on their way from Ferozeabad to Lucknow to take part in a demonstration on their service and their bus had made a stop at Jajmau for refreshments, police said.
The incident took place when the speeding SUV ran over their group, leading to on-the-spot death of Pushpa (39) and Mamata (30).
The four injured were admitted to Hallett hospital in Kanpur.
Protesting the incident, several irate Anganwadi workers later created an uproar outside the post-mortem room and blocked the road in front of the hospital.
They were pacified only after being given assurance of compensation by the authorities concerned.
