Leading Kannada film star Darshan, once arrested for domestic violence, has clocked a new controversy today.
He has been accused by his wife, Vijayalakshmi, of going to the block of apartments where she stays with her son and threatening a security guard. She was not home when the actor, 39, reportedly created a scene near her home. A police case filed by her accuses the actor of harassment.
Darshan has said he visited the apartment to meet his son and that the watchman there abused him, leading to the fight.
Darshan, known as the Challenging Star in the Kannada film industry (others are dubbed Crazy Star, Rebel Star), was accused of domestic violence in 2011 after which he was arrested. But the couple then reached a settlement and the case was withdrawn.
Darshan and his wife have been living separately and have made it clear on local television channels that reconciliation is not on the cards. Property disputes are claimed to be at the root of the ongoing dispute as it is said that much of the wealthy star's property was bought in the name of his wife.
Darshan's arrest in 2011 created frenzy among his fans. They gathered at the hospital where he was admitted after his arrest to demonstrate their support. And adding to the strangeness of the situation, a young actress with whom he was said to have been having an affair was banned for three years by the Kannada industry. Following outrage, the ban was lifted within a month.
