Belgaum: Eight women belonging to a family, including three below the age of 14, drowned after their bullock cart fell into a river canal in the pilgrimage town of Savadatti in north Karnataka, police said.
Three other women were rescued and rushed to hospital, while the cart rider swam ashore safely and helped in the rescue mission, police said.
The incident occurred when the bulls pulling the cart got out of control as a dog came in their way, police said.
All the bodies have been pulled out from the Ghataprabha river canal at Mugalihal village, where the incident took place.
