Karnataka seeks increased coal supply

Bangalore: Karnataka urged the Centre to step up coal supply from public sector companies to itsthermal power stations to help it overcome the power crisis faced by the state.

The demand was made by Karnataka Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje when she met Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde in New Delhi, an official release said.

"The supply of coal especially from Coal India Limited and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited needs to be stepped up to overcome power crisis in the state," she was quoted as having told Shinde.

The Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) requires assurance of coal linkage urgently so as to implement projects such as Yermarus Thermal Power Station, Edlapur Thermal PowerStation, Bellary Thermal Power Station Unit 3 and Godhna Thermal Power project in Chhattisgarh, Karandlaje said.

These projects were in an advanced stage, she added.
