Bengaluru: There will soon be more helmets seen on the roads of Karnataka. The state does already have a compulsory helmet rule, but only for some two wheeler riders - those who ride within city limits of the six biggest urban areas.
Now, helmets are being made compulsory across the state. Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Dr M A Saleem, told NDTV that the notification had not yet been issued - but the decision had been taken.
However, city riders still seem to be considered more at risk. It is also planned to make helmets compulsory for pillion riders in the six city areas.
Resistance to wearing helmets is often - with riders citing reasons from heat to even spoiling of hairstyles. And helmets are often worn only in places where traffic police are likely to be, but helmets save lives.
