A 19-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her distant cousin at her college in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Monday, the police said.

Layasmitha was stabbed multiple times by Pawan Kalyan in the corridor of Presidency College where she was studying BTech.

Pawan Kalyan, a BCA student at Nrupathunga University in Bengaluru, was Layasmitha's distant cousin and they knew each other well, officials said.

"He wanted to marry Layasmitha," they said.

21-year-old Pawan had entered Layasmitha's college with a knife ditching the security, officials said.

The college staff and Layasmitha's friends rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead on arrival, officials said, adding that Pawan Kalyan is being treated at the hospital.

Pawan had been requesting Layasmitha's parents to let him marry their daughter for the last three-four years - which they had refused. Her mother had warned him earlier as well, said Mallikarjun Baldandi, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural.
