Yeddyurappa '100 per cent confident' of becoming Chief Minister again

Bangalore: BS Yeddyurappa told NDTV today that he is '100 per cent confident' that leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will keep their promise and he will be reinstated as Karnataka's Chief Minister. Mr Yeddyurappa claims that the party had promised him the post once he was cleared of major charges.

The former Chief Minister, however, added that he will not ask the party high command to make him the chief minister again.

Mr Yeddyurappa's statement comes after he got a breather on Wednesday as the High Court quashed a case against him in the illegal mining scam. Losing no time after the verdict came last evening, Mr Yeddyurappa dispatched a copy of the judgement to party President Nitin Gadkari, who recently had rebuked him for mounting pressure for his reinstatement as Chief Minister and indicated he had to come clean in the corruption cases.

Mr Yeddyurappa is reportedly unhappy with the present chief minister Sadananda Gowda and had reportedly given an ultimatum to Mr Gadkari, demanding he be reinstated as chief minister or given a senior post in the party. But Mr Gadkari ruled out any change of guard in the state.

Reacting to today's statement, Mr Gowda said, " You are fully aware of the statement given by Nitin Gadkari. We are bound by the orders of the high command. So far, there has been no meeting on this."

Mr Yeddyurappa was asked to step down after the indictment in illegal mining report.

He was jailed in October last year after being arrested for two different cases that involved him using his office as Chief Minister to make prime property available to his children and their spouses at phenomenal bargains. He was released from Bangalore's Central Prison after 25 days after.
