11 RSS Men Get Double Life Term In Kerala Murder Case
A court in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram had found 13 people guilty in a murder case.
Eleven activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have been given double life term by a court in Kerala for the murder of a man belonging to a Left-wing organization. Besides, one of the accused got life imprisonment and another got a three-year jail term for helping the others hide after they committed the crime.

On Friday, the court in Thiruvananthapuram had found all 13 people guilty of murder.

V Vishnu, an activist of the Democratic youth federation of India or DYFI, was hacked to death in broad daylight in Thiruvananthapuram in April 2008. Sixteen people had been arrested for the crime, of whom one died and another was acquitted.

The police had said that the case was a political murder that had followed an attack on the RSS office on March 27, 2008. Vishnu was also named as a suspect in the three cases involving attacks on RSS men.

Political rivalry between the state's dominant Left Front and the RSS - the ideological mentor of the BJP - that frequently leads to clashes and violence, has been prevalent over last five decades in the state. It has been especially marked in Kannur since the victory of the Left-led LDF in the recently concluded assembly elections. Over the last seven months, at least half-a-dozen lives have been lost in the area.
