2 RSS Men Arrested For Murder Of Left Worker In Kerala's Kannur

Kannur police have warned political parties of strict action if they incite violence.

Thiruvananthapuram: Two activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS have been arrested in Kerala's Kannur for the murder of a local CPM leader, the police said.

Mohanan K, was hacked to death on October 10 by a gang of 6 men in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijan's hometown, Pinarayi. His murder led to a revenge killing of a 19-year-old BJP worker Remith, for which three CPM activists have already been arrested.

The police said four country-made bombs and swords have been recovered from the arrested RSS men.

One of the accused, in his early 20s, has had a police case against him previously too for political violence in Kannur. According to the police, they were directly involved in the murder of the CPM leader.

Kannur, a hotbed of politics known for BJP-CPM rivalry, has witnessed at least seven political murders over the last six months. The violence had spiraled in the run-up to the assembly elections and continued following the victory of the LDF.

Last month, the police was forced to issue a warning to political parties, warning them of strict action if they incite violence.

The Congress has raised in the issue in the Assembly, blaming the two parties for unabated killings.

The ruling CPM accuses the BJP of deliberately creating law and order issues. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the Assembly that the violence was a BJP strategy to create law and order problems in the state.

The BJP maintains that the Left government lacks the political will to bring the violence to an end because of the increasing mass base of the BJP.
