Idukki, Kerala: A 30-year-old woman migrant labourer from Odisha was raped and murdered on January 1 in Kerala's rural Idukki district.
According to the police, two accused have been arrested and have admitted to raping the woman. The accused are migrant labourers from Tamil Nadu and Odisha and lived in the same locality as the woman.
"The postmortem report says death was caused due to a deep head injury caused by a sharp weapon. We are also waiting for the chemical report," police sources said.
After hitting her on her head, the accused allegedly dragged her to bushes and raped her on Sunday morning. Her body was found abandoned, without clothes by the police. The woman had two children.
There have been reports of women being abused, molested from several parts of the country since New Year's eve. In Bengaluru, hundreds of revellers had gathered to celebrate the New Year when men, some of them drunk, groped, harassed and stalked women. The police was either unable to or unwilling to help, said some of the women who were attacked. They have also said that nobody came to their defence. Video posted on social media showed the women crying for help. No case was registered till late last night, three days after the crime unfolded in full public view.
