Thiruvananthapuram: In an attempt to end the escalating political tension in Kerala, the CPM and the BJP-RSS district leaders met in the capital Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam district today, as part of the peace meetings, between the two political rivals. This comes a day after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met BJP state President Kummanam Rajasekharan and RSS state leader Gopalankutty Master to iron out political differences.
On Saturday, an RSS worker Rajesh Edavakode was killed allegedly by a political rival with links to the CPM. But police maintains the reason behind the murder to be personal enmity. However, the First Information Report indicates political rivalry.
"In a clash between DYFI (CPM youth wing) and BJP activist, 11 accused aimed to kill RSS's Rajesh, who had helped the BJP activists during the clashes. The accused conspired against law, disturbing the peaceful atmosphere," the FIR said.
However, clarifying the difference in version, City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar said, "FIR is the statement of the witness who was along with Rajesh and he has his own political inclinations. Our initial investigation found that they had strong personal enmity."
It was after the RSS worker's murder in the capital that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Director General of Police Loknath Behera were summoned by the Governor to ascertain facts first hand.
Both the CPM and BJP-RSS workers, after the peace talks today, told the media that efforts would be made to restrain their respective cadres to ensure political stability. There have been 10 political murders - with three victims from CPM and seven from BJP-RSS in Kerala since Assembly elections held last year.
