Singer Ghulam Ali's concert was cancelled in Maharashta few months ago after objections from the Sena.
The Kerala unit of the Shiv Sena, which is part of the ruling NDA alliance at the Centre, has threatened to stop the concert of Pakistan based Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali scheduled for later this month at Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr Ali's concert was cancelled in Maharashta few months ago after objections from the Sena. It is being organised this time by the Kerala based cultural organisation Swaralaya on January 15. The Shiv Sena's local unit has demanded the concert to be cancelled.
"We have been against the Pakistan singer's concerts in India and will not allow this especially at a time when the country and those in Kerala are mourning the loss of Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan Kumar," Perurkada Harikumar of Shiv Sena said. Lieutenant Colonel Kumar was martyred in the Pathankot Air Base attack and cremated today at his home in Kerala's Palakkad.
The organisers, however, have ruled out any change in the schedule. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is among those attending the function.
The singer will perform in Kolkata on January 12 at a programme organised by the West Bengal government. The TMC government has said it will make security arrangements to prevent anyone from disrupting the concert.
