CPM Worker Killed In Kerala's Kannur, Police Suspect Political Murder

A CPM worker was hacked to death in Kerala's Kannur

Kannur: A 52-year-old worker of ruling CPM was hacked to death this morning by unidentified men in Kerala's Kannur.

Sources say Mohanan K, CPM's local committee leader, was attacked at his toddy shop by four-five men in a busy market area. Another worker, Ashokan, was also injured, police said.

According to police sources, "the attackers were masked men and the attack is of a political nature."

CPI(M) has alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack and have called for a strike in the district tomorrow.

Kannur has witnessed a string of attacks on political workers since the Left government came to power in May. Over 300 cases of political violence have been reported in Kannur since May.

The Opposition has accused the government of not acting against the growing political violence in the state.

"There have been 70 murders and many incidents of political attacks and violence since the CPM government came to power in May. It shocks me and I fail to understand why the government is not doing anything or even calling for an all-party meeting," senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had said last month.
