Thiruvananthapuram:
A 22-year-old Dalit woman in Kerala has alleged that she was gang-raped in the house of a police constable in rural Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday,
According to police sources, the woman or her family did not report the case. The police found out about the incident after she was hospitalised for attempting suicide the same day, they said.
The police have filed cases against four accused for rape and abetting suicide and has arrested all of them including a police constable, who allegedly allowed his house to be used.
The woman was allegedly gang-raped by a friend and his colleague. "They wanted a private place and a known person contacted the third accused - a police constable - asking him for his house," a police officer who did not wish to be named, said.
The accused have alleged that the victim demanded money later in an attempt to blackmail them.
"It is for the accused to prove their innocence. We have taken up the case based on the statement of the victim," the investigating officer told NDTV.
