Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to give a boost to handloom products, Kerala today decided to use handloom materials for school uniforms which is distributed among students of government-run schools in the state.
The decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.
The government has decided to use handloom materials for school uniforms, which will give a big boost to Hantex (Kerala state Handloom Weavers Cooperative society ltd) and Hanveev (Kerala State Handloom Development Corporation) products, he said.
The Education and Industrial departments will streamline the implementation of the project, which is expected to give a big thrust for the handloom sector in the state.
All girl students upto class 8 and boys upto class 8 under below poverty line category are given free uniform by the state government.
