A multi-crore wedding in Kerala has caught the attention of the state
While the commoners continue to suffer due to cash crunch in the country, the rich seem to be unaffected by the centre's decision to ban 500 and 1,000-rupee notes.
A multi-crore wedding in Kerala has caught the attention of the state. Attendees at the wedding of bar hotelier Biju Ramesh's daughter were left awestruck by the sheer opulence at the event.
Last month, Karnataka politician and mining tycoon Gali Janardhan Reddy organised an extravagant wedding for his daughter in Bengaluru.
Mr Ramesh's daughter Megha married Ajaykrishnan, son of senior Congress leader and former Revenue minister, Adoor Prakash at a temple on Sunday.
The entrance to the reception venue resembled the famous Mysuru Palace in the state of Karnataka, while the interiors was modelled upon the famed Akshardham temple in Delhi.
Over 20,000 people took part in the reception in Venpalavattom in state's capital Thiruvananthapuram.
A lavish spread of more than 100 dishes was laid out in the dining area, including a live biryani counter.
Despite the wedding involving the son of a senior Congress leader, state political leaders decided to give the function amiss.
Mr Ramesh was a key person behind the allegations of corruption against the previous UDF government led by Oommen Chandy. Mr Ramesh's bribery charges had led to the fall of two ministers in the Chandy government.
Chandy and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had faced severe criticisms from within its party and allies for attending the engagement of the couple last June.
