India's First State-Run Global Artist Village Set to Open in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: India's first state-run global artist village will be thrown open for art buffs at Sreekandapuram in northern district of Kannur on September 29.
    
The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, under the Department of Cultural Affairs, has designed the village of international standards to provide artists from the country and abroad a common platform to live and work together.
    
State Minister for Culture KC Joseph will inaugurate the village, comprising studios-cum-residential complex at Kakkannanpara in Sreekandapuram, an official release said in Thiruvananthapuram today.
     
A number of dignitaries, comprising those with art, culture and political background including well-known artist and Academy chairman Kattoor Narayanapillai and vice chairman Chitra Krishnankutty, are expected to participate in the event, it said.
    
Touted as the first such facility of global standards in the country, the village will offer separate studios providing a canvas to granite, wood, metal and clay artists.
    
Residential complexes, exhibition galleries, library and conference hall are among other facilities offered in the village.
