Kochi: With controversy brewing over his submissions in the Kerala High Court on the Mullaperiyar dam issue, Advocate General K P Dandapani met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his residence on Sunday.

Mr Chandy later told reporters at his residence in Kottayam that the Advocate General (AG) had met him and explained his stand. "I have asked him to explain his stand to the state Cabinet on Wednesday."

While making statements in the court on Friday on the safety measures being taken by the government in the event of the dam's collapse, Mr Dandapani purportedly said that three downstream dams of Idukki, Kulavamuvu and Cheruthoni could hold the waters of Mullaperiyar.

Mr Dhandapani told Mr Chandy what he had informed the court was solely based on information as well as records given by the Revenue Department and Additional Chief Secretary, the sources said.

Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had denounced the AG's submission in the High Court which had contradicted the state's stand on the issue.
