The family is among many others in Kerala who suspect that their young members have been radicalised.
Kasargod:
The parents of a 29-year-old man describe him as a good son and a loving father. He left his house in Kerala's Kasargod months ago, along his wife and two-year-old son. Now, the family knows nothing of their whereabouts.
"We have started our journey. Tell parents we are safe," read the last message his brother received from them on June 19.
"He was a loving son and dotting father who will never join the ISIS", the father told NDTV. The parents have filed a missing complaint.
The family is among many others in Kerala who suspect that their young members have been radicalised. 17 men and women in the state are suspected to have joined terror group ISIS.
The missing couple had converted to Islam before getting married and were well connected with many others who are now missing too. Some families say the couple were the indoctrinators, but the parents refute the allegations.
Another family in Kasargod says their 23-year-old son had started pursuing orthodox Islam since last two years and had gone to Sri Lanka to pursue Islamic studies. But he has been untraceable since his last message on June 25.
His father, who did not want to be identified, told NDTV, "He messaged me that I am in a land where true Islam is practiced. No kaafirs, no tax, no haraam. He told me if one dies here only then you go to Allah," he recalled the last conversation with his son.
"If he hasn't done anything wrong, I want the government to help bring him back. But if he is on the wrong side, I don't want him back," he said.
Most of the missing young men and women are highly educated and from well-to-do families. All of them took deep interest in studying the Quran in the last couple of years and stayed away from socialising, say their families.
Police is investigating the reports of mass radicalisation in the state but nothing conclusive has been found as of yet, police sources have said.
