Thiruvananathapuram: Kerala Government has received a letter purportedly sent by the Union Home Ministry recommending action against Inspector General of Police Tomin J Thachankary in connection with his controversial trip to Qatar a few years ago.
When asked about reports in local media on this, government sources said the letter, received three days ago, neither has the signature nor the seal of the official who purportedly sent it.
The authenticity of the letter was being verified, the sources said.
Thachankary was suspended from service by the then Left Democratic Front Government in April 2010 for undertaking the trip without its prior consent.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had probed alleged violation of service rules by Thachankary in undertaking the trip to the Gulf country and also allegations that he met fundamentalist outfits during the vist.
However, the IPS officer was reinstated in service in November last on the ground that National Investigation Agency had cleared him of the allegations. He was posted as the Managing Director of State Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (Marketfed).
Reacting to the reports, Thachankary said "these were part of attempts to malign him by creating a somkescreen." The National Investigation Agency had probed all allegations and found them 'totally baselss', he said.
