Thiruvalla, Kerala: A 18-year-old boy was arrested today in Kerala for allegedly pouring petrol on a girl and setting her on fire this morning.
Ajin Reji Mathew, the accused, was angry after his proposal was rejected by the 18-year-old girl, a radiology student, police said, news agency PTI reported. The incident has been reported in Pathanamthitta district's Thiruvalla town.
The two were walking together when the boy suddenly opened a bottle of petrol, poured it on her and set her on fire, according to eyewitnesses.
The girl, 18, has suffered 60 per cent burns and her condition is said to be serious.
The accused has been charged under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
