LDF staged a walkout on the first day of Kerala Assembly's budget session.
Kerala:
Left Democratic Front (LDF) lawmakers led by Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan staged a walkout on the first day of Kerala Assembly's budget session.
LDF members repeatedly tried to obstruct Governor P Sathasivam's customary policy address and started shouting slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and some of his cabinet colleagues facing charges in solar scam.
"We have nothing against the Governor. But his government is reeling under allegations of corruption. There are allegations against Chief Minister and his minister. They have to resign," Mr Achuthanandan told the media during the LDF march outside the legislative assembly, after the walkout.
Mr Chandy, who also holds the portfolio of finance minister, is expected to table the budget before the Assembly.
Last year, the Assembly had witnessed ugly scenes of protests, as former Finance Minister KM Mani, tabled the budget at a time when there were allegations of bribery against him for the renewal of bar licences.
Solar scam accused, Saritha Nair, has made several allegations of corruption and bribery against the government, including Mr Chandy. The allegations have been denied by the Chief Minister before the judicial commission.
