A man who tried to take a selfie with an elephant was attacked by the jumbo, which was resting after a tiring day at a local temple festivities, and seriously injured.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday at nearby Kilimanoor, police said adding the 37-year old man has been admitted to the medical college hospital in Thiruvananthpuram.
He had gone up to the elephant with a bunch of bananas and then started taking a selfie standing close to it.
The animal dealt a blow with his trunk and as the man fell down, gored him with his tusk, causing serious injuries.
Hearing his cries for help, mahouts, who were sleeping, and people nearby rescued him.
