In a first such case in Kerala, 'monkey fever' has claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman in Wayanad.
Ms Omana of Kattunayakkan colony near Pulpally was admitted to Sultan Bathery Taluk hospital two weeks ago with symptoms of the Kyasanur forest disease also known as monkey fever, District Medical Department officials said today.
She was referred to the Kozhikode Medical College hospital two days ago where she died last night, they said, adding, about 15 persons are undergoing treatment for the disease in Kerala.
This is the first case of death due to the disease reported in the state, they said.
