Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today took exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement over the rape and murder of law student and said the state government is committed to book the real culprit.
Reacting to PM Modi's statement at a rally in Palakkad yesterday that 'a Dalit sister was raped and killed, we don't see a government anywhere', he said the state government has done everything and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala is personally looking into it.
"As law and order is a state subject, the Prime Minister should have first received a report before making such a statement," he added.
Meanwhile, a group of people staged a demonstration in front of the secretariat, demanding justice for the rape victim.
The woman, who hailed from a poor family, was allegedly subjected to rape and brutal assault using sharp edged weapons before being murdered at her house at nearby Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district on April 28.
The incident also had its echo in Parliament with members demanding "exemplary punishment" for the culprits, besides triggering widespread protests across the state.
No one has so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
