PM Narendra Modi had earlier slammed the Congress-led UDF over the solar scam and the brutal rape and murder of the woman saying there seemed to be "no government" in the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: Taking exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi flaying the UDF-led Kerala government over the brutal rape and murder of a law student, state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala today alleged it was "cheap politics" made with an eye on the May 16 Assembly elections.

"The statement of Prime minister that the state had not done anything in the murder case is part of cheap politics. A person who is holding such a high office of prime minister should not have made such comments," he said.

Mr Chennithala made his strongly-worded rejoinder in a Facebook post, barely hours after PM Modi attacked the Chandy government, in his election rally at Palakkad.

Referring to the Kerala High Court order that it would not interfere with the investigation, Mr Chennithala said, "This clearly showed that the present probe was going on the right direction."

The statement of prime minister that the state had not done anything in the murder case was "unfortunate" and it was "made with an eye on the May 16 Assembly polls," he charged.
