Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has denied the allegations made by the Opposition that the state government is not taking action in the wake of the increasing political violence in the state.
"The police are doing its job and no one is interfering with it and this is the state's stand. I don't think this is the time to have an all-party meet on political killings or violence. A group is still training its men in weaponry," Mr Vijayan said in Assembly today.
The Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had asked the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meet in the backdrop of political violence in Kannur and the neighbouring areas.
"There have been 70 murders and more than 100 incidents of political attacks and violence since the CPM government came to power in May. It shocks me and I fail to understand why the government not doing anything or even calling for an all-party meeting," Mr Chennithala had said.
According to official statistics, since the new government came to power, more than 50 political attacks and four murders have taken place in Kannur, where the cadres of the BJP and the CPM are continuously in conflict.
