Thiruvananthapuram: Weeks after a CPM and a BJP worker were murdered by spiraling political violence in Kerala's Kannur district, the district police Chief Sanjaykumar Gurudin has issued a notice to all political parties, warning them of strict action if they incite violence.
"You have a big role in ensuring peace. In your speech, declaration or public meetings there should not be any incitement of violence - overtly or covertly," the notice read.
"In addition to the notice, very strong legal action will be taken against posting, forwarding or spreading provocative and false information leading to enmity and further violence," Sanjaykumar Gurudin told NDTV.
On Tuesday, several people from the civil society are joining hands to flag off a peace march and a blood donation camp, with the message that blood is given only to save lives.
Over the last six months, there have been 7 political murders in Kannur -- a district known for BJP-CPM rivalry.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala raised the issue of political violence in the Assembly, accusing the CPM and BJP of making Kannur the state's "murder capital".
The ruling CPM has accused the BJP of s deliberately creating law and order issues. The BJP maintains that the Left government lacks the political will to bring the violence to an end because of the increasing mass base of the BJP.
