Kochi:
The Southern Naval Command celebrated the Navy Day on Sunday. The celebrations began by paying homage at the War Memorial.
Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany along with MLAs Hibi Eden and Dominic Presentation and Cochin Port Trust chairman Paul Antony joined Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command, to pay homage at the War Memorial at the Naval Base.
A new memorial, 'On Eternal Watch', depicting the vigilant watch on the bridge of a warship has also been commissioned by Kunnath S Raju, the senior most sailor of Southern Naval Command.
In the evening, the Southern Naval Command conducted a traditional Beating Retreat ceremony at the command parade ground. Small arms drill and a fly past of naval aircraft were part of the celebrations.
