Thiruvananthapuram:
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar will be the face of Kerala Government's ambitious campaign against drug and liquor abuse.
State Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan today said in the state Assembly that Mr Tendulkar has agreed to be a part of the drive as per the request of the CPI(M)-led LDF government.
"Sachin has agreed to be part of our drive. We are planning to make him take part in the activities of anti-narcotic clubs in state schools," he said during the Question Hour.
The government has also plans to set up an awareness mission to strengthen and coordinate various anti-drug and liquor abuse campaigns, Mr Ramakrishnan said.
The Kerala government had discussed with Mr Tendulkar about the campaign when he met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the state Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram in June.
Mr Vijayan had then said that the cricket legend had given consent to use his name to strengthen the campaign against liquor and drug abuse in the state.
