A security personnel was found dead with bullet injuries at the naval base in Kerala's Kochi late last night.
53-year-old Naik Sivadasan K, who was with the Defence Security Corps, was on duty as an armed sentry at the base last night.
Police is trying to ascertain whether the jawan was killed in accidental firing.
The Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Mr Sivadasan, who belonged to Thrissur, is survived by his wife and two daughters.
