Thiruvananthapuram:
Marxist veteran and state Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan today asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to emulate the initiatives taken by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to regulate price rise in the state.
While speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on price rise of essential commodities, the veteran leader brought to the notice of the House the steps taken by Ms Jayalalithaa in this regard.
"Jayalalithaa is taking keen interest in controlling prices of essential commodities in Tamil Nadu," he said.
The nonagenarian leader specially mentioned the 'Amma' brand hotels, budget eateries launched by the Jayalalitha government which has become an instant hit among the public.
"Can't Chandy take her as a model in controlling prices?" Mr Achuthanandan asked.
The former Chief Minister also said the situation in the state is so pitiable that it is similar to the 'starvation period' experienced in the 1930s.
