One can place orders and make payments online but there won't be any home delivery.

Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala decks up for Onam, tipplers have a reason to rejoice. The State Co-operative's Consumer Federation or Consumerfed has decided to sell liquor online during the harvest festival next month.

"One can place orders and make the payment online but there won't be any home delivery. The order can be collected from a special counter at their nearest consumer fed outlet," Consumerfed Chairman M Mehboob said.

Speaking to NDTV, Mr Mehboob said the recommendation was made to decrease long queues outside government beverage outlets. The move is aimed at increasing the over all sales of Consumerfed outlets.

Consumerfed is the top body of consumer cooperatives and has 36 retail liquor outlets in Kerala.

The previous UDF government's liquor policy, which was upheld by the Supreme Court, has been at the centre of discussions since the Left government came to power. The UDF government had allowed sale of liquor only through government outlets and 5-star bars.
