A three storey building collapsed in Kerala's Palakkad district today leaving many trapped under the debris. At least eleven people have been rescued and further operations are underway. The building had a restaurant, and several small shops operating in and around it. There are no casualties as of yet, police said.

The incident happened in a bustling street in the municipal bus stand around 1:30pm. There is a huge crowd gathered around the place. It is not clear how many people are still trapped under the debris. The injured people have been taken to the hospital. One person is said to be critically injured in the incident.

Ambulances and firefighting teams are on location for the rescue operation and cranes are being used to clear off the debris. One NDRF team, that was stationed in Palakkad as backup in case of floods, has been helping with the rescue operation at the collapse site. All top district officials including District Collector and District Police Chief have reached the spot. Further details are awaited.
