'Travancore Sixes' to be held on December 11

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to revive cricket and boost up infrastructure of the game, former players and film stars have decided to join hands to organise 'Travancore Sixes', an entertainment-oriented shorter version of the game, which will be held on December 11 at Chandrasekharan Nair stadium here.

The official announcement in this regard was made by the office-bearers of Cricket Beyond Boundaries (CBB), an organisation comprising of former players and cricket enthusiasts. Noted film director Priyadarshan, who is also the patron of CBB, said that the prime objective behind organising such an event was to build infrastructure, basically a cricket stadium, in the city.

"Currently eight cricketers from the city are playing in Ranji matches for the state. They have never received proper facilities and are bereft of a good stadium. If the facilities are upgraded, then the sport would benefit a lot," he said.

'Travancore Sixes' will be the first sixes cricket match to be played in the city. The game is more fun-oriented as each team will have six players. The game will be limited to five overs. Two teams from the film world, a team each from media and business, a team comprising of former players and another team from CBB will take part in the event. Noted cricket players including G R Viswanath, Sunil Joshi, Praveen Amre and film stars like Mohanlal, Bala, Kunchako Boban, Indrajith and Vinu Mohan are expected to take part in the gala event.

The match is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. The matches will be played on a round-robin basis. The final match will be held in the evening.
