Thiruvananathapuram: Amid ongoing diatribe against Communist Party of India, the opposition Left Democratic Front's second largest partner in Kerala, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today objected to Communist Party of India's suggestion that the front be expanded by readmitting parties that had left it.

Referring to Communist Party of India state secretary C K Chandrappan's proposal in this regard, Vijayan said in a statement it was not on Left Democratic Front's agenda to expand the front by bringing any party from United Democratic Front.

Reacting to the development, Chandrappan said in Kollam that Vijayan had taken a line different from Communist Party of India(Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat. "The Communist Party of India-Marxist central leadership feels that those who left Left Democratic Front should be brought back," he said.

He wanted Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala to learn lessons from the Left Front's defeat West Bengal and said they should consider all Front partners as associates. "Communist Party of India feels it is not proper for Communist Party of India (Marxist) to go ahead with its present position," he said.

Vijayan said it was not clear what Chandrappan meant when he said those who moved away from Left Democratic Front should be brought back to the Left Democratic Front fold as the Front was one that always took decisions after discussions.

Communist Party of India-Marxist also did not consider as politically wise to disunite some parties from United Democratic Front and strengthen Left Democratic Front, he said.

Vijayan said Left Democratic Front has a declared policy to oppose Congress- led United Democratic Front and isolate Bhartiya Janata Party. "No one should do anything and use any words that would weaken this approach of Left Democratic Front," Vijayan said.

Communist Party of India-Marxist wanted to strengthen the Left movement as it considers that Left movement was necessary for the political future of the country.

However, he said Chandrappan's criticism on the conduct of the just concluded Communist Party of India-Marxist state conference was one which even opponents of the party did not make.

His remark that the conference was conducted by 'Event Management' was not in good taste and there was no other way than to term it as "pettiness", he said.

Communist Party of India-Marxist is not a party that believes in dominating other parties in the Front, he said, adding the party would not keep quiet when someone overrides them.
