Kolkata: A man was killed and another injured after a boundary wall collapsed during a squall in Kolkata, police said today.
The boundary wall collapsed probably when a tree fell on it during the squall yesterday and the two men got trapped under it in Bright Street area of south Kolkata, they said.
One person was rescued from under the rubble and admitted to a hospital last night, while a body was pulled out from under the rubble today, a Kolkata Police officer said.
Following the incident, Disaster Management Group of Kolkata Police swung into action to pull out the second man from under the rubble but he was found dead, the officer said, adding the exact cause of his death would be known after the post mortem.
Three persons were killed and six others injured when a storm accompanied by rain hit the city and coastal areas of West Bengal yesterday.
While two persons were killed at Jadavpur in the southern parts of the city, one pedestrian lost his life at Beliaghata in northern part of the metropolis, police had said.
At least 70 trees were uprooted in and around the city due to the squall.
