Kolkata: An 11-year-old girl, set on fire four days ago by a man who tried to rape her, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Kolkata on Sunday.
"The minor was admitted with critical burn injuries. Today (Sunday) morning, she succumbed to her injuries," SSKM Hospital Superintendent TK Ghosh said.
She was set on fire on Wednesday in Salkia in Howrah district. She suffered 70 per cent burn injuries.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a youth, said to be the prime suspect. He will be presented before a court on Sunday.
The accused tried to rape the girl when she went out of her house to relieve herself. When she resisted and threatened to reveal his identity, he poured kerosene over her and set her on fire.
