Kolkata:
A host of eminent actors and film directors on Wednesday urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to undertake a long-term plan for the revival of Bengali film industry.
"We have even placed several suggestions before the CM urging her to undertake a comprehensive plan for the next five years to improve the infrastructure and revive Bengali film industry," actor Prasenjit Chatterjee and director Goutam Ghosh told reporters after meeting the chief minister.
With the growth of mutiplex, the number of operative cinema halls in the state has come down to 400 from the earlier 1,100.
"Because of less number of cinema halls, we can't get many films released at a time," Trinamool Congress MP Dev (Dipak Adhikary) said.
"We need both help and incentives from the government to overcome hurdles and revive the Bengali film industry and the CM has assured us to look into the matter," film director Srijit Mukherjee said.
