A street is waterlogged after heavy rain in Kolkata on Thursday
Kolkata: Software workers in Kolkata had a tough time getting to office this morning.
Roads in most parts of the IT city, Salt Lake Sector 5, had knee-deep water after heavy overnight rain and a steady drizzle since the morning.
Sometimes, called Kolkata's San Jose, thousands of IT workers had to swarm to office with umbrellas over their heads and water at their feet.
The neighbouring township of Salt Lake also reported waterlogging. A resident said she had to step out at 1:40 am and move her car to higher ground when she saw water seep into her vehicle.
Other parts of Kolkata have also been waterlogged, though not the main thoroughfares. The weather office has predicted more rain.
With the intensity of rain being higher in the northern outskirts of the city compared to the south, many low-lying areas in Dum Dum and Rajarhat New Town apart from Salt Lake were affected by waterlogging.
Dum Dum recorded the highest rainfall of 118 mm till 11:30 am today from 8:30 am yesterday, the weather office said.
The weather office has forecast that the intensity of rain in the Gangetic West Bengal may reduce from tomorrow morning, but is likely to increase again from Saturday.
