Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee today said that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has provided space in eight KMC markets in the city to Agriculture department to set up stalls to sell vegetables at the rates fixed by the state government.
From tomorrow the Agriculture department stalls will start selling vegetables at the prices fixed by the state government in eight KMC markets, the Mayor said.
The Agriculture department stalls would procure the vegetables directly from the farmers and would then sell it in the markets, he said.
The Mayor said the KMC has also provided space to the Agriculture department for two mobile vans to sell vegetables.
Mr Chatterjee also said that all the KMC market superintendents have been directed to everyday report to the KMC about the prices of vegetables.
