Bomb-suppressing blankets soon in Kolkata Metro
Kolkata: The Kolkata Metro will soon have X-ray baggage screening systems, bomb-suppressing blankets and 600 video cameras as part of an Integrated Security System (ISS) which will become operational in the next three months.

Metro Railway has already awarded the contract to vendors for the supply, installation and commissioning of the ISS, railway sources said.

With this, Metro Railway, became the first zonal railway in the eastern region to award the contract for the ISS.

Besides X-ray baggage screening systems, ISS would also include improved door frame metal detectors and hand held metal detectors, bomb-suppressing blankets and baskets and 600 fixed and roving video cameras. The cameras would be equipped with latest video management and analytics software.

The RPF's Rapid Action Squad would be given portable X-Ray scanners, explosive vapour detectors and automatic vehicle scanners.

All stations of Metro Railway along with the depots, would be connected with its central control office through state-of-the-art networking components, the sources said, adding that secure interfacing and webcasting facilities would also be available.

The Railway Ministry has decided to install ISS at important stations of all zonal railways.
